Extensions designed to enrich your browsing experience

What’s next?

I just can't keep my feet still ^^

I've got so many ideas for extensions (most of them are not realizable with the current set of APIs, though) and I wanted to have a feedback from you about this one:

Windows 8 Modern UI for Opera

You can download a Proof-of-concept-version (very very preliminary) from my github repo if you want to 😉

if you do so: How does it work?
the Modern UI will only be accessible if you toggle the window fullscreen. If you did that, move your mouse all the way to the top of the screen and it'll show up.
You can see the currently opened tabs which you can click at to switch to them and below you got the address bar to go to another page in this tab 💡

What do you think about it?
Is it "needed" at all?
And if yes, does it make sense to develop it or will Opera publish a Modern UI-Version in the foreseeable future?

  1. I was thinking same thing a few days ago. You made it. I think you should finish it and release. I don't think Opera will make tabs for fullscreen in 4 month.

  2. This is great idea , but wait! 😮 You might be waisting your efforts, because Opera Devs will be looking into this matter, to create a Modern UI version of Opera for Windows 8.But i think You should finish it, its just complete, just add thumbnails using Screen-shot API!But avoid making it too advance! 😉 You definitely have great coding skills.

It installs correctly now, but it doesn't seem to work so right in my setup (Opera 12.11 in Windows XP SP3, with the taskbar at the top if it matters). Here are two captures: http://screenshotuploader.com/i/01/5gevl3xi8.jpghttp://screenshotuploader.com/i/01/h_6guiduv.jpgIn the second one, the bigger tabs are pinned pages (they are smaller, not bigger, in the normal view).

Also, after using it once or twice, it stops working, and I get artifacts like this:http://screenshotuploader.com/i/01/zgo_024dz.jpgAfter this happens, the page shown gets restored (not maximized) for some reason.

That's why it's a proof of concept. It's not supposed to work, but it's supposed to show, that coding this extension is actually possible with the current set of APIs 😉

Oh, my bad then. I thought you wanted feedback about display issues and the like. It works, evidently. 😉

  8. I can barely wait to see a Modern-UI version of Opera. And for a certainty Opera won't be implementing such a dramatic overhaul of the interface untill version 13 😀 (assuming there will be a 12.20 and 12.50 along the way)

  9. Hi!I know the current extension API does not allow access to preferences, but can you write a extension that works like following:-Allows saving proxy settings-Adding proxy list to context menu-Upon selection use following commands to change proxy(This is is tough part, not sure if this works).http://my.opera.com/Tamil/blog/fast-proxy-switching

extensions do neither have access to proxy settings. I wanted to write an extension once changing it automatically for restricted youtube videos. No way

😆 No way! You are doing great job! Its just that i feel Opera development cycle is slow! :worried:

Sorry for having to say "no" again, but there's no API for.

  13. :furious:

  14. Can you do this if extension API allows?https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tab-badge/

AFAIK, you change title of pages. So you can put interesting character beggining of the title.

True, I thought about this for a sec, but first it's not really catchy and second pinned tabs won't display anything
