Extensions designed to enrich your browsing experience

Download ControlThis is the last alpha-build of Download Control.
If you are missing some features, it’s time to speak up now ๐Ÿ˜‰

I spent quite some time developing this build and made a lot of progress. There’s not too much directly visible to you though since major part is various under-the-hood adjustments and improvements.
Because of those, I’d recommend to uninstall all previous versions of this extension first, restart Opera and then install this one. If you have a lot of rules set up already, you can upgrade, too, but you’ll probably end up with a bit of unnecessary junk storage data.

What’s new (and visible to you) in alpha 5?

  1. Initial Setup page
You’ll now get forwarded to Download Control’s settings page when you install the extension.
There’s some guidance and instructions (including hints to what’s coming up in first beta) to better understand how this extension works and what it can actually do for you.
  2. contextMenu settings
as promised, I added settings to switch contextMenu entries on and off. By default, only “open” will be added
  3. bug fixes

Sounds cool? Test it!

You can have a look at my initial post about Download Controlย to learn about some advanced possibilities like using regexps and variables in rules ๐Ÿ˜‰

As mentioned above, beta-phase is just around the corner. I’d love to get some feedback from you about features and overall usability ๐Ÿ˜‰
And one distinct question: Did automated default download folder detection work for you? Let me know in comments, please.

  1. great work as usual, I’ve played for some time with this one and I’m loving it so far ! what a relief to see that after downloading a lot of different files, every file is where I want it to be !

    I didn’t notice any bugs so far, but I have a request ๐Ÿ™‚ :
what about an “import/export rules” feature ! it’s not a must, but it would really amazing to have it …

keep up your great work ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Thanks! I always appreciate getting feedback ๐Ÿ™‚

This feature would be really simple to implement. Yet I can’t imagine a possible use case for it. What would you do with this export?

      • I have lot of opera installs ( opera 20, opera USB, opera next… etc ) it will be great to have the rules backup’ed and shared between all those copies ๐Ÿ™‚

      • All the rules are saved in Chromiums synced storage. This should automatically sync across all of the devices you choose as soon as Opera implements their new service.
So I guess your feature request will be unnecessary then?

      • ah ok ! no need then. I just hope opera will implement that one soon !

        thanks christoph ๐Ÿ™‚
